First, let’s look at some activities.

Match

When  we ask, 'When was the last time you...?' 
the main verb is also in the past.

E.g. 'watch a comedy film' - 
'When was the last time you watched a comedy film?'

Put the verbs in the following sentences in the past to complete the questions.

We can also say, 'When did you last...?' The main verb stays in the present.
E.g. watch a comedy film – 'When did you last watch a comedy film?'

Depending on your language, ‘When did you last…?‘ may be easier than ‘When was the last time you…?‘ or the other way round.  You decide which you prefer, but it’s good to know both, because natives use the two forms.

G. Oh, I haven’t cycled for years. I’m not sure if I could remember how!

H. Quite a long time ago. There aren’t any pools around here.
